Hello Everyone
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:00:53 am »
Proud owner of a 2005 Gti in Tornado Red with 57k on the clock, picked up yesterday after being in the wilderness for a couple of years. Have previously had a Golf Mk 4 V5 hence my log in name, Seat Leon Curpa Tdi and a Audi S4 Avant.

Car has FSH and I picked it up for 6500 which I think is pretty good. Only major problem is 'White worm on the rear boot lid badge' and a couple of wheels are slightly scuffed.

Will endeavour to post some pictures by the weekend depending on weather!

Welcome to the Forum Ian  :happy2:

I'm sure you will love it here. It's quite addictive.  :ashamed:

Have you thought about doing your badges in black?
Front looks great in black and the rear can look really good but IMO needs the background colour coding to the car!

Get some pics up

Thanks guys, will try and get some pics up today, I was on early shift this morning so hopefully will have time this afternoon to take some pictures, will not have time to clean it though!

Had a look on the forum ref sorting the rear boot lid.

Also I need to go to my local VW dealer and see about warranty repair on front wings as they are starting to bubble at the top of the arch. While there I  see if it has had the recall on the coilpacks and ECU?

As car has been serviced at a local specialist in Rushden for the last few years it has probably been missed!

Managed to give her a wash after defrosting hose pipe in house.

Rinsed, snow foamed, and washed and dried. Then gave up as to cold!

Needs some work to get paint up to scratch, lots of tar spots! (Any recommendations for removal?)

Looks like a good one Ian  :happy2:

I think Autosmart Tardis is great for tar spots….but try and get a chemical spray bottle to pour it in cos it tends to melt other spray bottles!

I use an autosmart bottle which has lasted ages! (thanks to Washshop Keith on the Forum)

I would just drive along to your local VW dealer and ask. Im sure if they enter your reg on the network they can tell you if any recall work is outstanding!

I had my MOT done at my local Dealers this time last year. When I returned to pick up the car, it wasn't ready. They informed me that it would not be ready for another 30mins cos they were changing the coil packs due to a recall.

I didn't complain

I have the dreaded white worm on the rear badge. Can I prise off the old badge witihout taking the whole thing off and then spray the back and add a chrome badge from a Mk4?

Hmmm Not really sure what you mean mate?

Are we talking about the VW boot handle badge? If so yes you can separate the chrome VW from the black plastic behind.  :happy2:

Mine is the earlier smooth badge that is covered in white worm so it looks like just one piece.

Just removed white wormed rear vw badge, planning on colour coding the boot handle and applying a new chrome badge.

Best place to buy vw Tornado paint?
