Fuel Consumption - Average M/PG
« on: April 26, 2009, 10:38:11 pm »
A quick post to see what average fuel consumption everyone is getting?

I realise this request is far from scientific.  All I ask is that you post your fuel consumption whilst driving normally to/from work or on your daily journeys through a complete day.

Just to get the ball rolling... I'm getting around 32 mpg. A far cry from the quoted 40 mpg...

What engine do you have mojo ?

Mine is about 26 mpg but as you say it's hard to compare as it's only about 12 miles to work but it takes me nearly an hour  !!!, on a long drive without much traffic I can get 36mpg

28 mpg on a great variety of roads. I use the gears a lot because it's the way I've been taught - Always be ready and in the optimum gear. It's been 28 mpg for a very long time.

I've never seen more than 33 mpg.

25-30 ish on a 8 mile commute 70% town / 30% DC.  Moderate traffic in town.  If I'm using GTI power to come off roundabouts and get up to speed its 25, if I'm using sensible power its closer to 30.

On a long steady cruise at or just above NSL 37-38 is possible, even saw 40 once, but road conditions meant I was stuck to abut 50mph for quite a distance...

On my usual steady motorway/A road drive to work, I can get around 35mpg - highest Ive seen is 38mpg.
I have a long drive coming up in July, when Im going up north - about 300 miles or so, so will see what average I get during that drive.........

ahh i see, 32mpg for a 200+ bhp car seems more than fair to me, you really didnt expect 40mpg did you ?
Do remember how they come by those figures is "perfect scenario" which just doesnt happen in the real world, my old ST was quoted at average of 33mpg IIRC and it would only do 19mpg, now that is something to complain about  :fighting:

I can get anywhere between 28 - 33 depending on traffic conditions. I also have a long drive coming up next weekend so will have a look then and report back.

Couldn't have put it better myself, and DSG makes this even easier and smoother.  :happy2:

Looking at my little "Road Trip" software on my iPhone I am getting between 28-32mpg each fill up.  Some weeks I manage to drive slightly slower and get a bit better and other weeks a bit quicker resulting in the lower figures.  I do 24 miles each way to work every day along country lanes and a few A-roads so not a bad figure overall.

BF on my GTI and I usually get 28-30mpg on my daily commute. 13 miles of A and B roads, not usually stuck in any traffic.
