Hi there.  I'm new to this forum after recently buying a Mk5 Edition 30.  Fantastic car!!!  I know the discs and pads need doing soon so I wondered if anybody had any recommendations as an alternative to the OEM??  Also, are the brakes on the Ed30 the same as those on the GTi?  Thanks guys...

brakes are the same on both GTI & ED30  :happy2:

a fairly common upgrade is to fit R32/S3/Cupra front calipers & 345mm discs to add a bit more bite...

This is what im currently doing to my gt tdi. R32 calipers and discs are huggeee  :grin:

Or check out the NQSBBK (Not Quite So Big brake Kit) uses boxster calipers. Justed had mine fitted and its awsome  :happy2:

Rather than 'upgrading' (i.e. 'bigger' brakes) can you recommend any alternatives to the OEM disks and pads i.e. OEM spec?  I know EBC and Black Diamond do some discs?  Also, what about pads?

Yer i needed a couple of new discs and pads so i thought it was a good point to upgrade. Found a r32 setup. Just got to wait for pay day before i can get discs and pads before i can get them fitted  :sad1:But cant wait. Only got 140 for now

Bit over the top aren't they for 140bhp? Even for 200bhp they would be

Yer they seems a good idea at the time lol. But im going to keep the car for a few years at least and will eventually get a remap once insurance goes down :smiley:

Is power really relevant when choosing a brake set up though? Surely the weight of the car is more important.

i.e A heavy car with not much power still needs big brakes, whereas a light car with a lot of power shouldn't need huge brakes.

No matter what bhp the car should have it is always good to have big brakes.
And being a diesel it is a heavier car and will stop slower than a gti.
But i just love the way the discs look behind the alloys  :ashamed:

Pics/ details are a prioroty on here  :smiley:  just traded my Ed30 in, wish i'd kept it now
