How easy to change the brakes?
« on: February 10, 2012, 02:17:05 pm »
How easy is it to change the discs and pads?  I've never done this myself before - is it a DIY job or do I need special tools?   I would rather do it myself if possible.  I appreciate that a lot of the guys on this forum would consider this to be a very simple task   :notworthy:

The only real specialist tool you will need is a caliper wind back tool for the rears, you need this to wind the piston back into the caliper so theres enough room to fit the new brake pads.

The fronts are a doddle, like Mr Higher 1 says above, you need the wind back tool for the rears. Where are you based, there may be member that can give you some guidance for beer tokens  :drinking:

The task is quite easy.

BUT: You can not do ANY mistake.

So if you need to ask, DON'T do it !!

If you have never done them before then I would suggest getting someone who has to show you the ropes.

They are not hard, but if you make a mistake then it will be costly.

What I tend to do is do one side with the owner watching what I do then get them to do the other side whilst watching over them.  :happy2:

THink I'm gonna get someone to do it!!  However, need to buy the discs and pads first.  Has anyone tried the standard Brembo discs and pads??

You can't do anything wrong with Brembo other than paying more
compared to AP which are the same in a different box.
