Long Shot - do we a Panasonic TV Engineer on here?
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:12:04 pm »
It's a heck of a long shot, but do we a Panasonic TV Engineer on here?  We bought our daughter a new Panasonic TX-P42ST30 6 weeks ago and she's accidentally broken the screen.  The extended 5 year warranty won't cover it as it's not Panasonic's fault and her home insurance doesn't cover it.  Also, Panasonic have confirmed that they won't pay a contribution to the repair as a goodwill gesture.

The repair is going to be over £600 (more than the cost of the tv) and I wondered if I could get it done any cheaper before we give up. :sad1:

Before you send your daughter to the orphanage, did you pay by credit card?

If so check with them to see if they provide any accidental cover for purchases

I need cover for that...theres a been a few "accidental" purchases been made in the past....  :innocent:

Is it a Plasma or LCD?
Either way,if the screens been impaired,it's goosed. The only way to repair would be to replace the entire screen and as most of the important other bits are directly integrated, then you basically would be paying for a new TV minus the plastic surround.Plus the engineers time, hence the high price.
There are a few places on the net where you might find a refurbished model or ex catalogue/display TV for a couple of hundred pounds less, but I think you may have to buy a replacement.

Here you go read this, section 5 talks about cover for theft, but some CC will include cover for accidental damage for up to 90 days or so

Thanks for the suggestion, we did buy it with a credit card.  However, one of the repair centres had already suggested that we try the card company, but they don't do accidental damage.
