Brake fluid capacity & performance fluid...

Hi guys.

Wanting to have my brake fluid flushed and fresh fluid put in this weekend.  How much will I need?
Also fitting Goodridge brake lines off DaveB :)

1.5 litres will see you right I think Mike for a full change, will leave you with a little for top up IIRC too

How much difference does 'performance' brake fluid make on std discs and pads?

Cannot comment on that Mike personally, but others seem to rate the 'performance' brake fluids over OE, e.g. Motul RBF600. I seem to remember TT was stating that these fluids *could* cause issues with ABS systems? Have a quick thread search and I am sure you will find them. I don't think anyone on here has had problems running these 5.1 fluids, but then many are running after market brakes too. HTH

It isn't the actual brakes under each wheel which is the issue - it is actually the ABS/ESP modulator hidden under the battery.  They have miniscule ports and passages, and 'conventional' DOT4, as well as so-called performance DOT5.1 fluids are simply too viscous or too thick.  From model year 2006 onwards, the ONLY specification of brake fluid to be used in all VAG cars (including the Veyron) is VW 501.14 - which is OEM fluid.

Secondly, the OEM fluid actually outperforms many alleged performance 5.1 fluids - check and compare the wet and dry boiling points - many 5.1 fluids are actually worse than the OEM fluid!

If you are using it in a McLaren F1 car - but categorically not needed in a Golf road car - even if said Golf does a few track days . . .

Hadn't realised how little I knew about this stuff! 

So can the VW OEM Fluid you refer to be applied to 2005 models as well ? If its that good then that's likely the optimum answer for me who only does spirited driving with maybe 1 -2 trackdays per year.

Otherwise suggestions welcome?
