Brake upgrade
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:02:53 pm »
Looking for some words of wisdom?

I have a friend with a 2011 Octavia.  He is after upgrading to a vRS/GTi 312mm front set up, obviously it will not be a simple plug 'n' play as the OE brake carriers are integral to the hub, can any one tell me what would be involved in this conversion?  It will require new hubs, and probably new suspension as his are only 50mm diameter legs........

He will need the hubs (there are some used GTI or S3 ones frequently)
and new 55 mm struts/dampers.

But this is a question of the money he's willing to spend.

On a 280 mm front setup I'd just go for some AP Xtreme discs and
Ferodo DS Performance pads.
From what I know the tiny 256 mm setup isn't easy to upgrade on
the 280 mm. Same caliper as 280 mm, but no carriers to change.

From what The Bruce has said it sounds like you can use the same calipers, but if you need GTI calipers i have a pair i can sell. No carriers though.
