V-Power and Ethanol Mix
« on: February 16, 2012, 01:02:40 pm »
I have been speaking with a mate who tunes Evo's for a living and he mentioned that they often use a clever mix of 9 parts V-Power to 1 part Ethanol to allow the ability of advancing timing due to higher overall fuel octane rating with the mix. Such a mix in theory will be enough to allow timing advance but not enough to cause any of the issues with running high concentrations of ethanol.

I am keen to know if anyone on here has run such a mix on a 2.0tfsi and how they found the results to be. I am also interested in any/all thoughts on the subject.

Nope that wasn't me. There are one or two good points in that thread though.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

does he mean ethonal or methanol?

Methanol has an octane rating of around 114 if i remember correctly.

I think most unleaded fuels already contain a quantity of ethanol (bio fuel).

I would think that any kind of mix away from standard pump  fuel was pointless unless you was remapped to accommodate said mix.   :happy2:  V power is probably the best fuel you can get.   If you want to run a mix, it should really only be for RR days and willy waving. (which isn't a problem)

he can just knock the timing right up with his select box.

Or get the fully loaded APR code with the race fuel map included and get his crown back  :signLOL:

Only if it would benefit the OP on a daily basis.  If not, standard fuel pump fuel all the way

I used to big up Revo just as much, and then they kept trying to tell me the flat spot was a problem with my car and then said the same about Wayne.

The guy who did the 12.7 did say he was APR though, and a 12.78 is more a 12.8. Will see though, janner sy, fancy a trip to the pod on the day you pick up the golf R, do some low 12's lol
