Stereo Install
« on: February 16, 2012, 10:06:19 am »
i'm wanting to stick some of my stereo into my mk5

i'm going to be sticking a sub in, couple of amps, my head unit and either a 2 way or a 3 way front end.

so basically i'm after some advise, where to put cables, best way to do a boot build.

sub boxes, i've seen the auto acoustics ones, and JL audio one (just a tad too expensive!), also seen the stealth boxes from America which look good, but i think i would have to have a go at making myself rather than trying to import one (unless someones knows somewhere in the UK which has them)

is it best to put speakers in the stock position, or go to the hassle of making custom mounts to put 6" speakers in the front of the doors?

basically, any and all information gratefully received :)

I have put amps and a sub in the boot of mine,i ran the power cable down the offside and the speaker wires down the near side...All depending what size sub you are putting ing you can build a enclosure on the side in the boot like Hurdy did

i kept my speakers in the same place as stock as it was a lot of hassle

had a look at your build, very nice :)

I haven't yet decided on the sub size, i've got 8's and 12's, but might go for a 10" sub as a nice medium without losing too much space to the box, i dont even know what sort of box yet, definatly sealed, but could be in the spare wheel, could be the spare wheel well, or a box like your in the side.

the system will probably end up with 3 amps (something bridged mono for the sub, large 4 channel amp bridged for the mids, and a little amp for the tweet, all run actively by my Alpine 9887r.

although, knowing me, i could go 12" sub in the boot, 8" sub/midbass in the doors, 3" mid and then tweeters, but i'd have to get a processor to do the EQ's and crossover duties! i don't even know where i'd stick all the amps for that lot!

i did all this literally last week lol, i ran the power cable down the passenger side under the plastic trip which pops off really easily and the remote and L,R cable straight down the center, if you pop it down behind the stereo it comes out in the foot well, then i ran it just up inside the trim until it came to the carpet made a small cut inside the center console in th carpet and ran it under then in to the boot, would never know any of it was there :)

the hardest part i found was getting the power cable from the battery to the interior. behind the battery (which i took out) there is a rubber ring/gromet that you can see all the wires running in to, i pushed the cable through there which took a few attempts then it was pretty easy from there :)

my sub is an alpine swe3200 which came in its onw enclosure, may have a custom build later on. i earthed it on the back seat anchor point as there is a screw on it that itll bolt on to and when the sub is in is totally covered any way so no need to put the plastic cover back on!

also did the back speakers with some Orions and about to do the front speakers with some Massive audio SK6 6.5" components. been asking questions on best way to wire the crossover recently lol
