Would you chance a Faulty RNS 500?
« on: February 17, 2012, 06:38:28 pm »
Just looking around some classifide adds and came across a "faulty RNS 510 Version B".
Here is the fault desctiption:

I am selling this RNS510 as it's stopped working properly. It's from a 56 Reg Eos but I believe it will also fit a Golf, Passat, Jetta etc.

It was working fine until last week when I foolishly tried to update the software on it, downloaded from a forum. Since then it's had 2 problems: The update CD has decided not to eject, and wont despite repeatedly pressing the eject button. Also, it seems as if the Hard Drive may be faulty as when going to play stored MP3's or access the maps the unit just says "System Starting"

The rest of the system still works fine. Powers up, Radio works, screen works perfectly and the SD Card slot works and settings screen etc can all be accessed. And Audio works fine on all speakers when playing radio / SD Card.

To summarise, It looks brand new - no scratches, no dead pixels, It all works except CD wont eject and Media / maps can't be accessed, you just get message "System Starting"

Looking around the internet (I am sure the seller must have also) there are potential fixes for this......but would anyone risk it?? :scared:

Personally I wouldn't risk it, if people are competent enough to try firmware updates and the like, I'd imagine they have tried beyond a reflash. Especially when they have tried to disassemble it.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
