Tyres with rim protectors

I'm about to bite the Lepsons refurb bullet, but reckon I need some new tyres with rim protectors before I do it. My front passenger 18" Monza 2 is so badly mashed that I nearly cry every time my Mrs reports the latest 'incident'  :ashamed:

I don't want to spend all this money on getting them done only for it to happen again.

I put new Pirelli P Zero Rosso's on the front 3,000 miles ago, and they have been brilliant, but I reckon the 'Zero' in the name refers to rim protection!

The Vreds Settantas that I still have on the back have a decent looking rim protector. Is this one of the main reasons people with these wheels fgo for Vreds?

If so, do Pirelli, Continental or Michelin do a good allround tyre with a decent rim protector?

If the wife wants to caress the curb with your new shiney wheels I doubt any tyre rim protector will offer total protection.

Telling her to take the bus is a good method though.  :laugh:

Caress? More like grind to a halt using the curb as the brakes!

I put on a full set of the Goodyear eagle F1 assyms 2 about two weeks ago.

The best tyre with rim protection I've used so far  :happy2:

Better than the vreds I had on before

When it comes to the missus, to quote a famous phrase from I think it was "VC"

"one damaged rim deserves another"  :evilgrin:

Most rim protectors are as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike.

There were some gator wheel protectors for sale in the for sale section the other day, they weren't to expensive and it looked like you can get them in various colours on the website so that could be a great way to protect them? They're a hard plastic rim the goes round the whole outside and appear to be removable when ever you want!

Ian, i used those alloygators for about 8 months

I had problems with them as they would push out from time to time, and i would have to deflate the tyre and hammer back in every month or so.

I think if the sidewalls of your tyres are any way soft these will push out

They certainly helped from kerbing, but when i removed them they left a scar around the rim where they were seated

Kind of defeated the purpose really

Just sharing my experience with this product, somebody else might have different views  :happy2:

Best advice is to avoid getting anywhere near the curb if you can. Obviously when faced with the choice of an accident or curbing a wheel... well it all depends on whether the insurance will be paid out by the other driver  :grin: that's a joke of course  :rolleye:.

seriously i have the vreds and have curbed the passenger front wheel twice and i'm ultra careful (and bordering paranoid) about curbing, just a shame i've been downright clumsy on two occasions which completely undoes the carefulness side of things  :scared:

Bridgestone potenzas have rim protectors, and they do make a difference at low-speed (parallel parking) manouvres

...........same tyres(now changed)  the same thing.Just touched a curb when parking & put a mark on my front left.Thing was i was hardley moving but the so called rim protectors were crap.

Best rim protection is to avoid narrow tyrers on wide rims and to teach your wife.  :wink:
