Griffin Lovers & Some VAG
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:15:02 pm »
I dont normally do write ups but thought I would put this in even though its from the darkside  not plugging my stuff either as most of its non stock
The car in question is a 55plate astra vxr, just bought 3rd owner. Previous owner had it machine polished before selling. It had a lot of polish residue on plastic trim and in door jams and in panel gaps as well as trade mark pinky paint. Owner wanted a general tidyup heres some befores

Started on the engine bay using AS G101 once clean dressed with AG vinyl & rubber then left to dry before moving onto the wheels - Megs wheel brightener as i had a damaged one gathering dust. Pre wash was AG tfr for arches and tyres power washed off then snow foamed using various brushes for the panel gaps etc.
2BM with AF Lather, not been sure about this as I always need more than the instructons say to use. I have switched from lambswool mitts to valetpros new sponges and think they are good alternative seeing as lambswools at its most highest pricewise.

once washed and rinsed it was de-tar time with tardis then iron-x for decontamination. not a good idea as it was blustery so had to keep out of the way of sprayback  then clayed and dried of and taken inside.
Got out the das6 and set to work with some megs# 205 then a soft pad and some clearkote red moose glaze followed up by reds fav wax Vic's Conc really like this first time I have used this and def not the last buffed of with eurow blue mf's. here's the results

here some other stuff recently thru the doors.

Love the VXR.

How have you found the valet pro soonge compared to the likes of dodo and zymol?

Once you get it primed so to speak it works well. they suggest letting it soak a while before its first use and mine seems to get better every time i use it. It holds its shape and holds a fair amount of water where the mitt would allow it to pour out before you can get it on the vehicle. I haven't tried the zymol sponge so cant say for that but the dodo sn feels firmer. on one of the pics where the sponge is on top of the bucket its sitting there all fine and thats with a fair wind blowing about as well.

I'm using a zymol sponge and find the opposite to the mitt - it doesn't hold its water as well as the mitt. But it definitely softens up after a few weeks of usage.

I think with all those angles going on on the back of the Astra it couldn't look any other way!

Don't know what the designer was thinking of, other than how to get in a few more angled edges probably  the back end is far too busy  :fighting2: :fighting2:

Also, nice power house Fabia in the back ground  :driver:

Did you take the vxr badge off the rear?
