I have noticed the term "molested" quite a bit recently when referring to our beloved GTI's.
My interpretation of the term is that it's what someone calls a modified car that has gone beyond what they think is tasteful or acceptable to them. But, we each have our individual tastes and one of the many great things about this forum is that everyone seems to have a genuine respect for what others here do even if they don't like it themselves. So where is the line beyond which a car becomes molested rather than modified?
Molested is a negative term meaning abused or assaulted, so it's not really appropriate for those with totally unmodified cars to call any modified car "molested". "Totally OEM" or "totally unmodified" would be much friendlier terms.
There are those who genuinely think it wrong to modify a car and that, in our case, VW got it 100% right and we shouldn't interfere, but I disagree - VW and every other car manufacturer have to build to the lowest common denominator taking into account the rules and regulations in many different territories. There's no such thing as a perfect car except the one you build or modify for yourself.
