Finally lowered!! Strange bearing noise?
«
on:
February 21, 2012, 07:59:48 am »
So I have lowered my car on eibach coilovers and fitted my 18"s made up with the drive and looks but I have noticed what can only be described as a bearing noise when slowing down braking or turning mainly at lows speeds 30 and under!!
Any help? Diagnosis.

I replaced all 4 at same time as fitting the coilovers Thursday. It's like a whining noise bit like wheel bearing or tyre noise

Are you using different wheels and tyres than before lowering? Worn tyres?

How low have you gone bud, it may be rubbing on the front wheel arch screw. Have you done the arch screw mod

Unshore how low got about 15mm maybe 20mm I could go lower on front bowt 2-3 threads left and the gap at end of threads where the seat would go. On the eibachs.
Not the arch as I am running 215 40 18 for stretch don't think I have hit it yet.
Also it's when I am going slow not over bumps or any thing weird. Oh falken tyres also may make a difference gona try my old wheels tonight.

Rite changed wheels over no difference. So raised it up by 25mm bit better but still there. Gona raise more but unsure standard height from wheel centre to arch at moment 14"

This is doing it all the time at low speeds just reminds me of a wheel bearing going. They were fine an no noise till I fitted the coils and lowered it. It gets worse turning at low speeds but since raising and changing wheels not as bad. Weird unsure were to begin to look no rubbing on shafts or anything has to be a bearing somewere or drive shafts not a mechanic so guess work.

Still got a slight knocking noise on mine when i've left the car for a while, it goes after a few hundred feet down the road, so far changed the top mounts and bearings and can't see anything touching underneath the car, got some new subframe bolts to try next aswell as a good looking over on a pit instead of a ramp so i can see the suspension compressed and check for any contact better

Had a similar knocking problem when the car was dropped, changed the topmount bearings and it still persisted... took the 18's off for winter and the noise went away...
will find out next week when the wheels come back on if its still there

weird mine isnt knocking, is there only wheel bearings up front or is there diff bearings also? I have read you can get strange noises if 4 wheel alignment is out i havnt had it done yet as only done 50mile was waiting for it to settle for a week.
