VW Factory Amp - Do all golfs have them?
« on: February 22, 2012, 06:17:28 pm »
Hiya Guys

I was wondering if you could tell me if all mk5 Golfs have the VW factory amp installed? Is there a way to check?

Following some guides on installing RNS-510's it says when coding to set to the correct amp so that the sound quality is improved.

I found when i set to the VW factory amp the sound was reduced and i would need to have the volume quite high. Even on max its wasn't that loud.

Tonight in VCDS i set it to "no amp installed" and now the volume is allot higher. I've noticed GALA is more noticeable too.

I have 6 speakers in the front and 4 in the back, if that helps?

Thanks

Look under the seats. IIRC the factory amp was fitted under the passenger seat.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yeah I had a look there but all I could see is pipes for the hvac, so I don't think I have an amp. Would it be listed on the sticker in my car manual, which shows the codes for the added extras?

That's correct  :happy2:
Mine is under a plastic cover at the front of the underside of the seat, 10 speaker setup on a later than 2006 car and rcd500  were included with the amp as part of the 'sound pack' option

Hi Myles

You don't have one in your car

Of all the cars I have looked at I have only seen it on one

Thanks for the replies guys

So for coding the RNS-510 the following should be done if you dont have a factory installed amp:

Byte01 - 00 no sound system
Byte02 - 04 4 speakers
Byte04 - 04 front and rear
Byte05 - 00 leave as is
