Hi All,
I have an MFD2 in my 2005 Gti with an iPod lead and the standard speaker setup. The sound quality for radio and iPod is poor and I am wondering whether I can get good results with some quality replacement speakers, or just to rip the lot out and replace with a good, used aftermarket unit. I bought the car with the iPod lead connected (via the disc changer socket) so I have never heard what the MFD2 sounds like playing a CD.

Its worth noting that I looked into replacing the system 8 months ago with an RNS510 w/ Bluetooth, iPod and the quote was near £1000 which is way more than I am prepared to spend.

Should I try replacing the speakers (if so, just the front 2 or all? Suggestions of a decent upgrade?) or should I just rip the lot out and start again?

Thanks

The iPhone music is likely to be compressed and hence sounds crap through car speakers. You don't notice it much with the standard iphone buds. The other thing is that the standard speakers aren't up to much and the HU has to cripple the output to compensate for this.

Upgrading the HU will make a difference, as will upgrading the speakers but TBH if you're really into sound quality, you need to replace the whole lot.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
