MY FIRST GTI! (update 11/05/12)
« on: February 24, 2012, 06:45:03 pm »
Hi all.

Thought I would put up some pics of my new car as promised.  This is my first VW.  My last car (also my first) was a black civic type R (EP3).  It was a great car to drive when in the mood, handled like a go kart!  But sadly it was lacking in extras and I was sick of people looking at me like I was a nutter driving through town at 6500rpm to keep it in the VTEC zone!

Not great photos but I'm sure you all know what a MK5 GTI looks like.

Loving the car so far.  Much more comfortable than the Civic and the DSG box is AMAZING!!!

Plans for the car are as follows;

Colour code rear bumper and side skirts
RNS510
Cruise Control
Remap

As you can see from pics below, window switches are ruined!  The quality of these switches is shocking and I must say I thought VW were better than this.  Anyhow new chrome tip switches are ordered so will get these fitted soon and post some pics.

Thanks

Dont let any one from youparklikeac*nt.com see those pics!  :signLOL:

Looks a good base to start with. Where did you buy the chrome switches from?

Haha I've never heard of that website before.  Just went on it now, pretty funny!

Got the full set of switches from here http://www.bold-sport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=84

Price is comparable to fleabay and website looks pretty trust worthy.  Will let you know what quality is like when I get them.

Yeah just a few subtle mods, nothing major planned - YET!!!

First up after fitting the chrome switches will be remap at Star Performance in Kircaldy.  Will take it up to circa 245BHP which is more than enough for a driver of my standard  :signLOL:

Had my cruise control fitted yesterday by Golfman (aka Scott). Did a great job and will be returning to see him very soon to get the RNS510 fitted.  Whilst there he also fitted the MFSW buttons for me.

Today I fitted the chrome switches I had purchased, all fairly simple to fit apart from the fuel filler cap release  :fighting:! Removing the door card was a pain.

Will get some pics up soon.

Pics of the chrome tipped switches as promised.  Excuse the quality of photos and dirt that is visible!

Also a nice pic of the metal climate control rings and my new cruise control stalk!

Next up is the RNS 510.  Getting this fitted in May along with the BT module and sharkfin aerial for GPS.  All courtesy of Scott & Ed!

So my Zenec MC2000 will be up for sale, its not in the same league as the RNS but great budget system.  Does everything the RNS does, just not quite as slick.  If anyone is interested drop my a line. :driver:

Finally got me RNS510 fitted

Massive thamks to Golfman & Eddie-NL for supplying and fitting :happy2:

I fitted a shark fin for the nav and just put the aerial under the head lining.  Still get perfect reception and getting rid of the whip makes the car look a whole lot better IMO.

Also got the bluetooth module so I have full voice control.

Looks great!!

Have you had it remapped yet?

I currently own a ep3 type r. What's the golf like in comparison speed wise?

I'm hoping to buy a red dsg on Monday.

Booked next month for Revo remap, should take it up to 250ish BHP.

IMO the golf feels faster, but I think that is because its delivery is smoother than the lump you got from the Vtec!  The chassis in the Golf is more forgiving (comfortable) than the Type R, but not quite so good in the bends.

You won't regret it if you get one!
