ok think im gonna go get a scrap panel as people have said and have a go  :evilgrin: whats the safest pad and polish to go for or any steps they do

Might be worth getting a vw panel as paint on the golf is pretty hard, that's why I bought the Menzerna kit. As previous posts start on the least aggresive combination and move up. The scratches you are removing are not in the paint but in the clearcoat ontop. If you get paint on your pad you have gone to far!

Surely that depends on what you're after? An enhancement detail would be in the £150-300 price bracket and I'd expect £500+ for a full on correction, which you wouldn't do without a paint depth guage.

Unfortunately this is an expensive part of the country to live in

Depends on who you use. Polished bliss are a big name these days and so you can expect to pay top dollar. There may well be smaller companies/individuals who can help out.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
