TBH could you live with it? A small runabout is fine but would be limiting.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

What would be the reason for the swap?

How many miles do you do mate? Obviously the ed30 is a better car, but as you have the other weapon a small fun cheaper car to run would not be the end of world, people on here will tell you to keep the edy as I would, but if it's just for nipping to shops and back in the polo will be better, as for saving money can't see that happening with 3500 to swap. I think you know all this but just fancy a swap and I can't fault you :happy2:

Jhtrophy - some good points there. I do about 7500-8000 miles pa in my Golf. The daily commute is a 20 minute drive, 11 miles, of which half is on the motorway. The rest of the mileage is just local runs, with maybe 3 or 4 days out a year doing 200 miles.

Doesn't warrant replacing for 10mpg then, but I know what's its like to want a new car :signLOL: to me the polo is not as good as the golf, that sounds harsh I know and the polo is a great car, but every car has a hierarchy within the brand, if it's not for fuel saving I would go for something else if I just wanted to change, suggestions on a postcard to.... I'm trying to justify wanting a new car with saving money :signLOL: just go buy a new toy you know you want to.

I've got a 6R polo and whilst its a nice car to drive, the ride quality is nowhere near as good as
a Mk5 GTi. As soon as it touches a bump its unsettled and all over the place, definitely not as well
developed as the golf.  :happy2:

I wouldn't mind the polo as a car for the missus but for myself its a little small and cheaper finished inside for my liking and I don't think its anywhere near as nice looking as the golf.  Lovely little car but think the a1 equivalent is far nicer as has a much nicer quality interior

So id say costing you about £1400 over 3 years more for the ed30 over the 6R. (not including the £3500 you have to pay to change). But you lose imo more than you gain in term of car and such.

Have we any ideas what the residuals are looking like on the 6R Polo GTI? Is there a market for an expensive super mini?

This is a great topic I have pondered getting a polo gti but after just doing a 400 mile round trip in the golf it's a keeper for me . I love the look of the polo but the ed30 has to be better long term alot of the immediate value has already gone from the golf you won't lose a great deal on it in the next couple of years but the polo will drop like a stone.keep the golf it's lovely and in candy white you can't go wrong . Bear in mind there has been alot of engine failures with the 1.4tsi. The dealer knows he is on to a good thing hence the price drop of £2500 . I would be happy with a moped with that sexy arsed Aston in my drive .
