MPG EDition 30 (can it be true?)
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:06:04 pm »
Only recently got my Edition 30 and have been giving it... well, the beans  and no surprise, low MPG!

Went out today (with the wife on board) and this is what happened on our round trip to shops  :jumping:

Am i reading this correctly, that my 70 mile round trip averaged 39.2 mpg? oh and if i am not reading this correctly, be gentle and i promise i will go and stand in the corner of the room!

Cheers, Martin  :happy2:

Clearly your wife is a nervous passenger  :P

ON a side note, I saw 37.2 on a 90 mile drive (all motorway)

P.S. clean your car, that screen is dusty!  :happy2:

If you drive it really canny and use the minimal electrics(i.e. no heaters, radio, turn down dash lights) you can get very good fuel consumption.
I went out the other night on a visit to the outlaws, which is a 34mile round trip and halfway out there, the low fuel warning came on.
Typically, there's no petrol stations on the route there,so when it came to go home, the display told me I had about 20miles worth of juice left and 17 miles to go!
I made it home, but  I was impressed with the average mpg....44.9!! :jumping:
I wish I had taken a pic of it.... :happy2:

This is what made / makes the TFSi a class leading engine. Try that in a simarly powered alternative (focus st, astra vxr, remault megane 225 etc...)

What speed did you achieve that MPG in? am sure it was steady but MPH was it?

On average, about 60mph, but 10 miles of the trip is town driving, stop/start. :happy2:

I've achieved 41-42mpg but basically stuck at 60mph for the entire journey that took 3 hrs.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Proven to be worse on fuel consumption than driving economically yourself.
