how do you get these! lol

i had a trip from Manchester to slough and got 36.2mpg doing 70mph ish..lol i think i need cruse control! lol

around town on short trips i get around 23.4mpg.

do you think the DSG makes a difference?

Proven to be worse on fuel consumption than driving economically yourself.

Are you serious? Are there any posts about this or discussions anywhere? This is very suprising i would have never guessed, How bad does the cruise control affect the MPG?

Yes very serious. I used to subscribe to VW Driver mag and their road testers all used to say the same for economy runs. Think about it, the more you are off the pedal the more economical the car will be. CC is on the gas most of the time trying to maintain the speed you have set. You have to option to go totally off the pedal when the cc will still be on it.

This is what made / makes the TFSi a class leading engine. Try that in a simarly powered alternative (focus st, astra vxr, remault megane 225 etc...)

Totally, I use to get 40-45 on mine (non ED30) on a daily occurence on the motorway.

My current diesel Octavia wouldnt do much better!

I need to look at changing my plugs then, as im lucky to get 20-22mpg for the 7 miles to work in a morning, on a run may see 29-30 at a push.

I've never got over 32mpg in my Edition 30.  Motorway driving at 80mph, 30mpg.  10 mile commute to work in non rush hour traffic with not many stops, 30mpg.  Would changing the plugs make a difference?  I have NEVER seen anything more than 32mpg - even when driving very steadily.  Not sure if it makes any difference but car has 39k on the clock.

Are tyre pressures correct? No load in the boot? Stay at steady 60mph and you should see higher figures. Heavy right foot is the leading cause of low mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Well my mother just dropped my ED30 off after having borrowed it this morning as her Golf is in for service (VW's are a family thing!, me n mum have Golf;s, lil bro has a Polo) I re-set the trip before she left for her 38 mile round trip (mainly 60 limit A roads with 5 roundabouts each way) and she averaged 39.3mpg, she clearly drives slower than me  , same trip for me usually averages 27mpg

i wonder if there is an optimum speed, accounting for the power graph/delivery vs air+rolling resistance....

This APR Golf R is horrendous on fuel even driven carefully.

When I dropped Mike and his wife off to BCS I used cruise control the whole time at the speed limit and managed just over 22mpg.

I even followed Mike back to Nottingham at the same speeds and his mpg was much higher than mine despite the same software.

The highest I've managed is 24mpg

your right, all cars i have had the cc has been worse than me except my current car which is a good 5 mpg better than i can get, but it struggles to stay at set speed, slows a couple of mph up hill and speeds up a bit down hill!!!! french cars dont do that :signLOL:

To be fair, you don't buy a 230hp petrol turbo if tractor consumption is high on your want list.
