OEM discs and pads

hey luke, i need a set of rear disc's / pads ..... i've really no idea which ones to get, could you help me source some from TPS? i live in Clifton....

My discs and pads have been deemed as fine by my garage at this weeks service, so no need to change for me, but I think a list of TPS sites that will sell to Joe Public is a brilliant idea.

I'm happy to start a list if people want it.

How much were your pads? I I'm wondering if there are different quality of pagids. Front pads kept rubbing against disks so when I stopped I had burning smell. Again rears didn't have this issue but driving fairly hard and braking for short bursts caused rears to get so hot that sparks come from rear.

I then changed just front pads to a slightly more expensive mintex and the rubbing stopped and braking improved although rears are still rubbish and have taken my confidence out of my braking system when having a spirited drive.

Hence now changing front discs and pads and rear pads all oem.

Pads all round was £95
front disks £80

It may just be me but those oem equivalent pads and disks from ecp are pants. Nothing but brake fade and sparks from disintegrating pads.

People say oem use pagid but my new oems are made by ferodo or ever u spell it.

I would warn anyone from using pagid cheapo pads.

OEM suppliers will vary depending on who's put the best bid in at the time.  Same reason some GTI's rolled off the line with Michelin tyres, some with continental etc.  OEM suppliers are pagid / ATE / Ferrodo and probably others.  Worried you say that as I've just taken delivery of my new pagid discs and pads and they generally review well..

I suspect that the pads the likes of Pagid supply to VW as OEM are to VW's specification which might be slightly different to the specification that pagid sell to joe public under their own name - I don't know this for a fact but its common practise with many other goods.  Wouldn't have thought it would be that different though as they're supposed to be a quality supplier.

If that was my experience I would complain to Pagid - that doesn't sound right.  100% sure they were the correct fitment?  I think its normal enough that there is some contact / burning smell until they bed in but after a couple of months I guess they should have been well bedded in!

Cost broke down like so

2 Pagid Brake Disc (Front)   93.48
2 Pagid Brake Disc (Rear)  68.40
1 Pagid Brake Pads (Front)   46.74
1 Pagid Brake Pads (Rear)   31.14

Then there was a 25% discount applied.

I just got full set of Pagid brakes, front and rear discs and pads from ECP with 25% discount. Fitting tomorrow

Yes this smell lasted for few months. I should have complained. Definitely correct fitment. However im sure mine were cheaper than above.

Got a quote from Leeds VW dealer yesterday - front and rear discs and pads for £317.  I know somebody who will fit for about £60 which makes it about £380 all in.  The dealer quoted £670 fitted!!!!  Out of interest I called my local VW independent specialist and they quoted £400 fitted using VAG OEM parts......  Unless there is any major saving using TPS to supply parts it looks like it is going to be approx 400 notes to replace everything. 

Can anybody post details of any TPS outlets that sell to the public????

ok, ive booked in with a Garage for this Wednesday, a local VW specialist called PC Motors in Bristol....

replacing rear disc's and pads

£35 labour
£35 per disc
£35 set of pads

all OEM parts...

Total £140 + vat on top....

Happy enough with that, thoughts anyone?

ummm, just checked that, rear break pads and discs replacement appear to be £239 .... not £140 :)

Firstly, that is extremely disappointing, secondly, you can now show them the web prices.

And thirdly, I've have some limited success in getting them to price match local garages.
