Fit VAG parts, but get it done by a specialist rather than the Stealers. With stuff as crucial as the cambelt and water pump, or anything for that matter, I'd always go VAG. But I don't want top pay 130/hour labour! So I go to Duncans in Byfleet, Surrey, where most of the mechanics are Colbournes trained and all very experienced in VAG work, and the labour is 65 / hour!
Been going there for 15 years, and I know for a fact they are honest.

 No Brainer.

As both Ian and Pete say, get genuine parts and if you have a VAG Indy Specialised nearby then you will find they are usually a lot cheaper than the main dealer for a Cambelt/Waterpump change (and just about everything else). Had the main dealer do mine 6 months ago for £429 IIRC but only for convenience reasons as I couldn't get to JKM who quoted me £389.

My car was serviced by them last Month and the pointed out the belt was due.. But when I asked how much they said £499 including a water pump... Politely declind and pointed out it was a tad expensive and I would be getting it done elsewhere. Maybe these dealers are feeling the pinch as people shop around for a fair price.. My servicing is included in the package so not to bad but I would be shopping around for that as well..

Just ask if they are going to use genuine antifreeze as well as the belt and pump.. Alloy cylinder head on the TFSI...

That's still £100 more than Statllers and doesn't include replacement of the engine mount stretch bolts which should always be replaced rather than reuse ( lots of stories on here of engines dropping out when these bolts reused)  :surprised: - possibly try to get them throw in??

They use genuine VW parts too, including anti-freeze  :notworthy:

AMD Tuning are doing cambelt/waterpump for £312 fitted, unsure if thats with OEM parts or not.

Seems better than the £479 I was quoted from a VW dealership!

I was going to use Statllers but as I bought the car from VW Shrewsbury and has a 3 year warranty I thought it best to let them do it.. If the engine falls out then they can put the F####r right   :booty:

I will ring and ask about the bolts though

It's worth remembering that VW will price match a quote you get from any garage within a few miles radius (as long as they are using genuine VW parts)
