VW dealers no longer stamping the service book

Took my car in for a service recently, on checking the service book the next day I noticed that they had not stamped it, mentioned this to a mate and said I would need to go back and get it stamped. He said he took his Mazda to his own dealer and they didnt stamp it either, he said dealers have stopped doing this as its all electronic. Am thinking it will be a pain when I come to sell and and there are a lot of service stamps missing and I have to go through the explanation of why this is. Anyone heard much about this? Thanks

I can 100% confirm this is not true, and I work for VW service department 
Just ask for the missing stamps to be filled in

Not meaning to be funny buddy or have ago but NOT all VW dealers are the same, think you need to cut them some slack,
Every garage makes mistakes, some VW, some indys, people jump and shout when something goes wrong but don't really give praise when things go ok at garages, yes you expect more "quality" for a dealer.....that's probaly what your paying more money for! But seriously there just humans like you and me so a bit of slack wouldn't go a miss before you rip them on a forum

Well can confirm the Mazda dealer I used for the Folks zoom zooms first service last year said the same re stamping the book - now all electronic on their database. Does this effectively wipe out independent non dealer servicing as they won't be able to update the database (but guess they can stamp the book)

My VW dealer is still stamping mine tho!

I had to ask for stamps from landrover for the mrs truck, it's only of value on resale but a buyer looks for things like that rather than calling a dealership to confirm IMHO

Stamps though are pretty worthless, you can buy them yourself anyway and go crazy, I know an Indy garage that has main dealer stamps they got made up at vista print, they were bragging about it when the truck was getting mot'd next door and were offering me a service....I declined but it proves a point

Correct, the day after the service the event will be loaded onto the VW database for all VW dealers to see, no Indy garage has access to this,
All dealers will stamp the book tho and there's no reason why they shouldn't

The fake stamps in the books are more and more common now tho  we get 100 calls a day with people questioning servicing on cars and what's In the service book
Not a nice climate at all....

I have got to agree with you there Jack, you work for the same group that our cars go to for servicing and they have been great when things have gone wrong....and just as good when they went to plan!
