« on: March 04, 2012, 10:16:12 pm »
hi all im new to this site just wondering if anyone could help me, my car sounds sweet when its cold but as soon as it warms up it dont sound to good just finding the engine really nosiey, its a 2005 axx engine, been reading up and people are saying its the chain and tensioner on the right hand side of the engine (common fault)
As anybody had this work carried out on their car and what was the result and cost (and did it shut the thing up) i know the are a bit ticky anyway because fuel pump that noise i can deal with,
any help would be great

The GTI engines (mk5) feature a timing belt, not a chain, as far as I know its just the mk6 TSI engines that have a timing chain.

.........there is a small chain as stated in the first post & ''yes'' on the AXX early coded engine they do strech & rattle. My first 05 reg AXX engine code did it & i had it replaced under a warranty i got with the car.

One i got with the car mate(not main dealer). I had to fight to get it done tho as the warranty was ''break down'' but the garage that did the work were really good & told the warranty company that if the work wasn't done it would be massive engine damage.

............''yes mate'' makes a load of difference. It's a tensioner & the chain that needs replacing. Can't give you a price tho.
