18s or 19s
« on: March 10, 2012, 07:40:34 am »
Apologies in advance as I'm sure this is already a topic that I can't seem to find..
Maybe someone could post me a link to a previous topic??

I have a mk5 gt tdi lowered on h&r springs and I'm debating whether to go 19 or 18
Iv heard running a 225 tyre on an et45 will be fine but I don't want any rub and I'm wondering with the springs will a 18 be big enough.. Be grateful of any advice and pics to help me decide

19s will be quite a hard ride, especially if lowered already?

not really, it all depends on the setup to be honest, i ran 19's on my R32 and there was no difference from standard...whereas on my bora passengers run the risk of loosing teeth

235/35 R19 will be fine on your set up, as previously mentioned the handling will not be a good, for that the ideal is 17", but unless you are tracking the car regularly it doesn't really matter.  For looks I think 19 is the perfect size for the mk5.  As to the ride quality, a friend has just swapped from 18" wheels wearing 225/45, to 19's wearing 235/35 and he reports almost no difference, the only thing is he spends more time looking for pot holes.........but I do that running 18's!!

Thanks for all your replies and the welcome..
Looks like 19s are my best option which is what I thought the answer would be haha.
Will I need to make any adjustments to a screw or rivet in the front arch as I have heard many people
talking about this?? Anyone have any info?
