As above is it a job I could do myself or does it need to be done at a garage?

As long as you have the correct tools and a vice then you should be able to do it.

You really need an impact gun, multi spline sockets, cv clip tool and a big copper hammer.

So what tools will I need?

I had the front wheel off yesterday and from my understanding I need to remove brake caliper and front disc to get at the outer CV boot?

Anything else?

Despite contrary advice above when I did one I removed the driveshaft.  Not much extra work and much easier to do on the bench etc.

Getting the CV joint off was quite hard but a Master Tech gave me the advice of using a driveshaft bolt driven right down the centre, preferably with a windy gun (which I guess makes it easier if you leave the shaft on the car) to push the CV joint off.
