Love the sound of these! Might have to be my next car to scratch that V8 itch!

Had a '02 plate S6. Fookin loved it. Welcome to 18mpg.  :ashamed:

The S4 you have shown is a lot of car for the money and cheaper to run than the S6 but servicing will still kick you in the nuts.   :wink:

Mate you are preaching to the converted. The thing to be wary of is if any of the previous owners have skimped on the service and maintenance as it can be costly.  :smiley:

So I've heard, the horror stories of people going with the longlife service schedules and leaving a high revving V8 20000 miles between oil changes!  :stupid: Madness. The chain tensioner doesn't like it one bit and the engine decides to go bye bye! BANG!  :surprised:  :congrats:  :grin:

I have come from an S4 cab to a GTI. Servicing costs weren't so bad but the constant trips to petrol station were the problem. V8 is a nice engine, but it's thirsty !

Does it have to have four rings?

E39 M5 would be a suitable 8 pot, absolute second hand bargain if thou buys carefully.
Evo still reckon it's the best all round M5 of the lot, E60 and F10 included allegedly.

I would love an S4, avant ideally.  But I know a few people who have fallen in love with the noise, convinced themselves the MPG was livable but ended up selling it (or trying to at least) 3 months later.  Despite doing the numbers the running costs have still been crippling.  

I'm sure its not a problem, just highlighting that they seem to catch a few people out with the running costs.  But your right, the noise is  :drool:

A work colleageue has an 04 S4 Avant, and claims if driven sensibly he can get over 25mpg, with a remap. So its not a million miles away to the GTI by the sound of it? Until you hit the loud pedal...
