wheel bearing(?) noise

bit of help or advise if possible please ladies and gents.

i bought our golf in December and noticed that there was alot of noise coming from the wheel bearings or something.

i changed onto a set of winter tyres i had pretty soon and the noise disappeared.

i've just put the summer tyres back on and the noise is back.

i've checked that the pressures are right (2.3bar according to the fuel cap, 225/45/17) and that all the nuts are done up tight, but it really sounds terrible.

i saw somewhere that uneven worn tyres can cause it, but is that all it is??

i cant be doing with the noise all the time, its gonna drive me crackers on longer runs, please help!

Are they cheap tyres? i would suggest buying new tyres  :happy2:

2 are wanli's 2 are bridgestone potenza's, and the bridgestones are on the front :(

my 205 michelin snow tyres have been quiet as mice, but there really sound awfull.

my 225 sound awful on a smooth road, i should really have my front and rear camber set but i like the way it sits in a bit at the top, most of the road noise on mine is the tyres running heavy on the inner edge

No not all. I believe the Goodyear & continental's are a lot quieter :happy2:

No not all. I believe the Goodyear & continental's are a lot quieter :happy2:

get shot of the tyres, that will cure your rumbling noise. Unlikely to be wheel bearings untill your wheels are smothered with grease :signLOL:

I normally go for michelin tyres as i like something that lasts rather than outright grip, but i'm open to other suggestions that suit the golf better

its a 1.4 tsi 170 GT Sport with DSG in case anyone wants to know :)

check all the tyres have no flat spots where the tread is wearing down more than the rest of the tyres--even expensive tyres can go out of shape :happy2:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 seem to be the favourite on here.  :happy2:

well its not the tracking.

the tracking was out, but only by a small amount, correcting the tracking hasnt really dulled the noise.

before i start shelling out on tyres, i think i'll swap pairs with my winters to see if that cures the problem.

judging by where the noise is, i have the feeling its the bridgestones that are causing it.
