The most fun i've had on 4 wheels in a long time...
« on: March 11, 2012, 11:52:28 pm »
And i'm not talking about the red one either...  :surprised:

The Golf is off the road for a few days so blagged a Fezza for the week, today was the first chance i had to prise the keys from Mrs Beddie and take it for a spin...

The result? Well i'd forgotten just how much fun a sweet handling small hatch with 'just' enough power can be, managed to take in most of Cheshire's twisty bits and had an absolute ball in the thing!
Light weight, revvy 120Bhp motor and with steering feel and handling that puts my Golf to shame if i'm honest!

In short it's ace! and at £71 for a week i'm defo getting another to use if we go back to the iom this year  :driver:

Sounds like you're impressed with the Fiesta is it that good, or is it guilty pleasure ?
Once had a Polo courtesy car, 3 cylinder sounded great. Because I didn't expect much from the car I really enjoyed driving  it, if you get what I mean :driver: The speeds that you could have fun at were so much lower too.

Genuinely impressed tbh!  :happy2:

No stranger to a nippy Ford or 2 as ive had Xr2, Xr3i, Fiesta and Escort turbo and my first car was a MK2 Escort but not driven a modern one for a while, imo this kind of car is what ford does best and the Zetec S is a little belter!  :happy2:

I thought that about the polo's at work.....they scream and screech and you think your going fast but when you look at the speedo you realise that your about 20MPH out on what you would be doing in your golf  :signLOL:

Even the new 2012 fiestas have something great about them, feel much the same as the old mk2 XR2 chassis. A friend recently had a 1.8 TD that was slow and a bit crusty, but it was brilliant fun to drive.

Yeah the one we have at the moment is a 2012 and came fresh off the transporter to us, safe to say it's been nicely run in now...

I think your spot on with the Xr2 reference as it really does remind me of my old one (albeit without the CVH valve stem oil haze lol), a case of the whole being more than a sum of its parts springs to mind...

Yeah it's not as fast, refined or as well put together as the Golf but it's an absolute laugh to drive, not giggled behind the wheel for quite some time, crackin' little car!  :happy2:

That '12 Focus I had the other week, whilst having a miserable engine and a dashboard that looked like someone had stuffed a load of buttons up their nose and sneezed them at the dash, had a fantastic chassis under it. Masses ahead of the MK5/6 and I'll bet the hot versions to come will be very good indeed.
Sideways yo!

Some Ford geek trivia: CVH stands for 'Compound Valve angle Hemispherical '  (this is the basic design of, and where the Hemi engine gets its name)

Geek Trivia FTW  :happy2:

I worshipped at the altar of the CVH for 6 years lol, 2 MK2 Xr2's, 2 Xr3i's, and a Fiesta and Escort turbo, still have a mirror polished rocker cover that my mates had done and then fitted to my Xr2 for my 18th birthday in the loft

Thinking of trying a 1.6 turbo Focus in a couple of weeks, also got the DS3 on the 'to do' list now i've been introduced to the Avis staff rate and zero excess insurance...  :driver:

My folks had (not in chronological order) an XR2, XR2i XR3, XR3i, XR4i with the large spoiler and a XR4x4. All new and too tempting for an 18 year old at the time.. Ah the CVH engine and the XR2 was just like a roller skate to drive  :happy2:
