where to start? help needed!
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:10:34 pm »
i have a black 3dr GTI MK5 2.0T completly standard and im looking to start performance upgrades, i was thinking first thing first to give her some bigger lungs with and induction kit and most people on here seem to rate ITG intake with the GTI's, where to go after that? should i start wityh a DV? and then a remap? i dont really want to put a massive loud exhaust on the car i would rather the noise coming from the engine than a backbox. any suggestions would be great as im not really sure where i should start?

cheers guys

get a stage 1 map first. Then go from there.

Not really as the ecu should adapt to the extra air intake.
Without traction power is nothing!

most company's change an extra £50 to go from stage 1 to stage 2 or 2+

The biggest performance increase you will get will be a stage 1 remap. IMO you will never notice as big of a difference with any other modification. Plus you will then be able to see how the car needs better brakes and something to reduce the under steer the car suffers from imo too easily.

An induction kit isnt needed till you hit stage 2+, you wont need an exhaust till stage 2 (even then you only need a sports cat)

remap wise loads of options, sit down and do a search on here loads of reviews.

stage 1 = generally just a map 240bhp ish

stage 2 = sports cat 250-260bhp ish

stage 2+ = sports cat/intake/hpfp 260-280bhp ish

then theres a fmic to consider.

A good idea would be to post up your initial budget for the first wave of modifications.

If we know your bufdget and your location i reckon we could give you better advice on what you want to be considering at first.

What are you r long term plans, or are you unsure.  Many guys say that will stay at stage 1, but afterwards they decide to go further and end upo paying more in the long run.  :happy2:

obviously i am working paying bills etc so budget will vary but i will aim to complete roughly 1 modification a month and probably take the car to stage 2 at least. I am located in Hertford, Hertfordshire.

How much a month then?  a good remap will cost you around £350-500.  A good intake £250-350.  These should be first on the agenda IMO.

Then id be looking at ARBs and suspension.
