Black Headliner - Anyone done it?
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:48:58 pm »
It seems all the Jetta's in the UK came with light headliners. I haven't seen one in black yet.

So wanting to redo mine in black along with the A,B and C pillars and associated gubbins. Anybody know anyone who could do this or where I could get the right material from?

The plastics I am going to dye using Rit Dye as I have used that on plastics before and it works a treat. Good thing is it actually penetrates the plastic itself so even scratching it doesn't reveal the original colour unless it's a gouge.

Either that or anyone know where I can get a black interior from??

Yep, thanks Eddie, was just checking in ETKA, but that and the cost of the pillars too are prohibitive. I know people have done it for far less. Don't mind taking the car apart.........

Keep us posted if you go ahead with this. I too have a Jetta with the light grey headlining and fancy a change.

Good luck.

All the pillar trims are different in the jetta to the golf as the roof is lower on the jetta. The handles lights and stuff are all useable as I'm using some out of a 5dr edition 30. If you decide to trim yourself use a thick material or the glue won't take and it'll sag and drop off, my first time in the jetta it dropped off after a day or so.

And jas I've got a 5dr edition 30 headliner and pillar trims but no handles and light (as I'm using them) if your interested?

Fairly simple to change. I  changed my cream one for a darker one and all fixtures and fittings.

If I had more time I would of put the cream one back in before I part ex'd it but now its just going as it is.

It's hard but doable, I ended up taking the front seat out to make it easier, but I had to take them out anyway. You have to get it out of one of the rear doors.

Fortunately my gti came with the black headliner from vw, but when I had my lupo I re trimmed the roof lining pillars and used mk4 golf anniversary grab handles and gti sunvisors.
