just had the old misfire and engine light flash...
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:20:27 pm »
I'd felt a misfire before at high revs when giving it the boot, and didn't think much of it. At the recent service (40k) I mentioned it and they just recited the spiel about changing the plugs at 60k...nevertheless tonight I put the foot down and was faced with the problem again but much more prominent, accompanied with the engine light flash about 6 times...

I've just ordered plugs off ebay, and hope this sorts it, but would like to know if anyone with a 2008 GTi has had coil pack issues? VW say no recall is required but if the plugs don't do it, I'll get back to VW while the warranty's intact  :happy2:

hopefully, saves me having to take the car 40 miles to where I bought it to have any warranty work done!

while I'm fitting the plugs I'll probably get the garage to crack out the VCDS and delete the misfire from the error log, and hopefully that's all there is!

replaced plugs last night, no.1 coil pack (passenger side, directly under washer jet) was rusted at bottom and corresponding spark plug was also rusty. Car runs fine now on new plugs, however the dealership are saying they will not replace coil pack under warranty unless it fails

Is this what others have experienced?

I also mentioned this, and they quickly replied that 2008 models were not affected by the recall...

In that case, they are correct for that part.

So you have extended warranty? If so, just keep an eye on the misfires and its you can pin them down to cylinder 1 then you can ask them for it to be replaced.

yeah when I bought the car in september, it came with one years' approved used VW warranty.

If it's gonna go, I hope it does before September  :happy2:
