Well Vettel might not be would champion if the FIA come to Ferrari's aid. Yellow flag pass by Vettel on Verne has been seen and reported meaning Vettel would get 20secs added to race time dropping him to 8th so Alonso would win the championship by 1 point

^^^^ if the FIA and its Ferrari President have their way, Ferrari will be handed the Championship.

To be fair it should never have been missed during the race. We all saw it!

I agree with this and he should've got a drive through in the race or something.

Personally if I was Alonso or any sports person I wouldn't want to win anything through this sort of thing, as much as he would hold records etc, it would be tainted by the fact it only happened due to a penalty later on and missing celebrating on the day etc would make it less special. It's a bit like a premier league winning goal being taken away three days later due to it being offside, it was missed at the time, yes it should've been noticed etc but wasn't and its unfortunate and frustrating

This is some great analysis of the pass -

Your right and yes we did.

It's too late to change anything now, as NODZ say it should have been dealt with at the time. For Ferrari to argue the toss now just sinks of sour grapes and bad sportsmanship.

Knows his onions (although you wouldn't want to spend an evening with him, drones on!), great spot re the lap 3 overtake but I'm sure if we had on board from every car for every race we would see a multitude of infringements and outright cheating that gets missed and unpunished.

....Hear! Hear!  :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: And I'm a Ferrari fan. It should be left as is.

Perhaps the FIA should be fined for not doing their duty at the time!

Not that at all Rich, if it I was ever in Alonso's position and it was the FIA who noticed their mistake and changed it I would be happy I'd won it but it wouldn't mean as much or be special as it would've done on the day, I wouldn't personally ask them to investigate what happened, as frustrating  as it is to loose something by a mistake its over and done with, it happens in sport all the time.

By all means if Ferrari do pursue it then I wouldn't be bothered as Vettel has breached the rules as is being punished accordingly. Lets be honest if this was mid season Vettel would probably get a penalty added to the next race's qualifying time as a punishment.

Perhaps they can just change the state of Vettel's championship win to Hollow Victory.

.
Even if, as is almost certain, Vettel retains his third championship, he will feel gutted in the knowledge of this overtaking-under-yellow issue.

Similarly, Alonso will probably feel deprived.

Next season they will both be out to prove something and win the championship. RedBull aren't likely to field a poor car and if Ferrari can produce a better car than they did this year, then Alonso may be unstoppable. Good job for them that Hamilton isn't still with McLaren if they produce a good car too.

From Sky Sports Website, Ted Kravitz seems convinced all was legal.........

SKY SPORTS

However, it's understood that the governing body are confident that Vettel's move was legal.
While the footage certainly throws up doubt about its legitimacy, a partially-obscured steward at the exit of the pitlane can be seen waving a green flag just before Vettel rounds the Toro Rosso.

"It was actually a trick of the TV screen," Sky F1 pundit Ted Kravitz told Sky Sports News. "All the attention is on the light panels which are around the circuit and they supplement the marshals' flags that you get on any track. And if a marshal holds out a yellow flag, then you are not supposed to overtake and that is what people thought they were seeing.

"But actually the green light board was in the wrong place - there was a marshal flag before it saying that the danger zone had passed and we have had that confirmation from the FIA today that no infraction ever took place, they were satisfied at the time that Vettel did not overtake under yellow flags and as far as they are concerned it is case closed."
