Help - Fitting AUX to RCD300 that already has iPod connector
« on: March 12, 2012, 12:11:38 pm »
Hey guys,

My first post asking for help so I'll try and include everything.

My GTI has a RCD200 and I've bought an RCD300 (MP3) off a Member on here. I'm currently waiting for it to arrive, and been trying to work out what I need to do.

It already has an iPod connector coming out the dash (I've not got anything apple so never tested this, or have any idea how it works)

I want to replace this with an AUX input so I can use my phone or my Generic MP3 player. I'm not fussed over any control options etc etc.  Can anyone give me details of how to do this, I don't want it mounted and am OK with he cable just sticking out like the picture above.  What cable would I need and where would I plug this into the RCD300.

Many thanks for any help chaps.

Ohhh didn't know they existed.

The simple one looks the business I need plug and play I guess?

Might purchase one of these now.

Any idea how I activate the "Av source" for this, as I only have CD  FM AM on the CD player?

The device you have already fitted is probably the OEM VW simple iPod interface which appears as a CD changer.

Sorry, having no Apple devices means I've never used it yet, I guess this just activates when I plug something in then, or I need to hold down CD and choose Disc 2 from the menu or something like that?

So today I fitted the RCD300. Easy enough job, although clips were fiddly and used a credit card as didn't have a removal tool. But all went fine.

I was looking at this iPod connector as above, and the RCD has this fitted:

In a super ideal world, I'd like to be able to use USB Memory stick here, but I'd settle for an AUX connection, as it's already all wired in, would I be able just to use a Component (from that small box) into AUX connection?

I tested the cable with a friends iPad and it worked great through the CD changer function (albeit shows up as CD1-6 haha)

Any thoughts chaps?
