Very nearly a tale of woe

Greetings,

Driving past a Ford garage on my way to work and seeing a very clean looking steel grey Golf GTI in the forecourt, I decided to take a look. Being thoroughly pissed off at turning 35 that day and having to work on my birthday I needed some serious cheering up. Slapped a deposit on the car (pending a test drive) and told the salesman I'd be back the next day. Next day and the car does not fail to impress. It's immaculate inside and out, FSH and has genuine low milage. I've had quicker cars in the past, but none as complete a package as the Golf. Decision made - It got bought!

Fast forward 2 weeks and the Exhaust system warning light blinks on. Before I could a make arrangements to take it back to the garage disaster strikes. The car chucks it coming off the M8 motorway at a very busy roundabout in rush hour. The indignity of it being towed to the garage followed by 2 WEEKS of gaffing about by the Ford garage and I reached my limit. I demand that they stop messing about and send it to a VW specialist or they can take it back. A few more days and the problem is rectified - faulty fuel pressure sensor??? They tell me that they had replaced it with a non VW part and that did not work, simply changing it to genuine VW part and it was sorted.

I pick it up in the afternoon on my way to work. Desperate for the shift to end so I can take it for a blast home, the long way. 2am: Long twisty B roads and then onto the motorway - My love affair was back on.

It's an amazing car and I'm finding myself trawling through magazines and tuning websites already. I've also had a kind word from Strathclyde's finest regarding my "youthful and exuberant driving methods".

Happy days. That happened to my car about a year of owning it. Turned out to be the low pressure fuel sensor.

Hey,
Luckily I still had an almost complete 3 month warranty from the dealership, so it was repaired for free. I forgot to get a receipt for the work carried out and don't know how much this would cost. I'm gonna nip in and get some form of paperwork for my records. I'm just relieved that it was sorted and I'm hoping that it'll be trouble free from now. It's my aim to use it as a 2nd car as I have a trusty old V/Hall Signum diesel to commute in. Although I'm failing miserably at this as I keep taking the Golf.

As for the past metal, we'll I'm sorry to say, my name's sujo and I used to be a Vauxhall addict....

Renault 5GTT, Astra GSi, Calibra turbo, another Astra GSi, Astra coupe turbo.... Sorry guys, no VW's, for reasons unknown!?!

Calibra was by far the quickest thing I've ever owned but it disintegrated and ended up going POP in spectacular fashion. The rest were quick but like I say, nowhere near as complete as the Golf. I've started a wee slush fund that the Mrs doesn't know about. Gonna get those ugly bumpers/skirts colour coded (why VW?). Then maybe exhaust and remap if I don't get busted. I'm absolutely hooked!!

congrats on your new purchase , a few days after i bought my mk5 the exhaust light came on i put it down to teething and it was soon sorted , once the modding bug hits you cant get rid

i have the vwr exhaust on my r32 and its still a milltek just has .:r etched on the tips instead of milltek and is a lot more expensive

Yeah, Empty M74 at 2am is a dangerous place. They were both actually quite good about the whole thing - most cops are to tell you the truth.

They asked me how fast I was going and I said to myself 'well if you can't tell me, I'm certainly not gonna tell you'.

I've had some minor blemishes on the paintwork (bottom edge of the boot lid) sorted. Panel filter, quality mats and some decent bulbs, including led number plate fitted. Just the usual kinda stuff you do in the 1st few weeks. The thing I really want to get sorted is the paintwork on the lower front, sides and rear plastic. When I got the boot painted I was given a quote of around the £300 mark. I think that's the going rate having had a quick look on here. A friend of a friend is also in that line of work, he tells me he's owed a favour and I should go see mate for a quote before I do anything.

I like how subtle the car is, maybe the colour adds to this. It just oozes quality, I'd like to keep it that way and avoid changing the look of the car too much.
