Exhaust Come out of Mounts ?
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:49:05 pm »
Hi Guys, Just a quick one. I recently hit quite a large badger with the underside of my car. It was already dead in the road but doing 70 and swerving or hitting it... Well the choice was to hit it.

There was a right mess, I cleaned up under the car and all the blood that went everywhere and the guts that went under the middle of the exhaust. When It happened I though I lost the front bumper the noise it made however on inspection everything seems fine apart from the exhaust.

Having had a look today because ive got a creaking noise when I hit bumps I seen the following:

Clearly looks to me that the prongs should be in the mounts. Gave it a tug but it wasn't budging.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ross.

Could it be that the bars have bent back a little?

looks to me as if the front pipe has been bend back wards,Hitting a badger is like running into a brick wall

Is this an aftermarket exhaust? I reckon your back box has taken the full hit and dragged the mounts apart.

Nope standard exhaust mate, sounds a bit detailed now, but it was the centre of the exhaust that collected the guts and bones. Had to get my hand up there to get it out, the exhaust tips seem to be in the same place so If it has moved I don't think its a great amount.

Im hoping that getting underneath and giving the exhaust a pull will fix it. If not I'm guessing its a new one :/

Sorry, as well the picture is quite poor, I took it this evening in quite poor light with a torch.

The photo is from the passengers side towards the front of the car, the mounts look to be attached to the rear of the subframe so its just before the exhaust goes up to the manifold. If that helps anyone at all

Sorted now, turns out where the badger hit the underside it bent both of the metal brackets underneath pushing the exhaust upwards and holding it out of the mounts.

Ill need to replace the brackets under the car but for now its fine

No creaking while driving now and no rattling while I reverse :D
