DSG Remap, Is it worth it?
« on: March 18, 2012, 05:58:34 pm »
I have been doing a bit of research on this, Are the results worth getting it mapped, What kind of improvements will there be and any chance this can damage the gearbox?

GTi or ED30?

From what I have seen from our  DSG developement map over the last month I would say yes....

I had mine mapped. Bearing in mind mine was a track slag, yes, simply for the removal of the auto-upshift. I suppose 4WD launching is a benefit too. Otherwise, meh, it's not really going to improve your life that much for what it costs.

I've had my ed30 dsg mapped at r-tech,there is a difference eg.quicker shifting, higher shift point, it's always ready when yr in attack mode..I wasn't going to get my dsg box mapped but nick mapped it for free as I was getting a load of stuff done there

Mine revs to 7.5K now  :jumping: no auto change when in M mode is a bonus, generally better to drive as it feels more hardcore and the shift pops at 7.5K is to die for  something which I never use is launch control is at 4K or over as I'm not 100% sure, power is there all over the range as the box doesn't limit anything now to protect itself

It is jerky tho if you change at about 4K whilst on full power, shakes the while car! It's pretty aggressive!

Sounds like good stuff to me, do you mean jerky inbetween gear shifts meaning its a whole lot more aggressive or the gearbox losing its smoothness?

It's still smooth, it's smooth when changing at high RPM it's just when changing at low RPM when the torque is at its peak it's very rough, it's part of the DSG mapping tho from what I've seen

The map we have been working on is based on the S3 DSG set points, its hard to explain how it feels on the road as I dont drive one every day or normal, 9 time out of 10 I drive them WOT...lol  IMO normal driving feels more refined and smoother.

In the mapping we change the transmit torque limiters which tend to be 350nm, we just raise these to 550nm but can be set where we or the customer wants,  (on just a stage1 ED30 this will make a night and day diffrence to the power delivery)

Shift auto shift speeds between cluthes changed for sport and D mode,
Flappy paddle & M response times raised
DSG shift D & S auto limiter raised to 7100rpm (or where customer wants it at to match engine ecu limiter)
S mode has no auto shift and will hold rpm limiter for WOT but will shift which with slight throttle lift,
S mode will auto down shift to optimised rpm for given gear to so its always ready to pounce.
Launch control rpm can be set to what ever rpm the customer wants
Launch control reaction faster

We are also working on the down shift map blips and torque reduction maps between gear to give more of a kick/sporty feel to the S mode.

Or we can just read your stock DSG maps and change the torque limiters, which from seeing the results for the past month is a must have on all ED30 DSG maps or stage2  GTi maps
