Which one to buy BWA/AXX??
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:04:20 pm »
After noon Gti peeps

Im now looking for a replacement to my previous car, Ive been searching the web and it seems that I should be able to buy Golf GTI quite comfortably upto £7k around 05/56 plate

I know from the MK4 days that certain engines were more easily tuned so the question Im asking out of the 2 engines that are in question BWA & AXX is there a better one to buy?? whats the pro's and cons?? etc

Also when looking at MK5 GTi's to buy what should I look out for??

Thanks in advance peeps

Ed30, best engine out of the lot, from 56 plate onward  :happy2:

AXX is the 1st run engine, had a few fuel pump follower failures + noisy cam chains I would go for the BWA or if funds stretch, as I said, Edition 30.BYD

wasn't the AXX cam followers good and the later models mostly had the cam follower problems

Well my 2005 AXX came with the harder revision 'B' where Awesome's BWA (2007)car had the soft revision 'A' cam and was replaced under warranty after the HPFP destroyed it.

Ive not read anything anywhere to suggest that the AXX came with anything other than the 'B' revision cam.  It is strange though that an earlier engine (AXX) would have a later revision part than the newer (BWA) engine
