Wheel Adaptors
« on: March 17, 2012, 09:40:02 am »
Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has adaptors fitted to adjust the PCD??

Im looking for some wheels but not finding much on the 5x112 so i was considering fitting adaptors

Has anyone got some fitted and is there any issues with fitting them ??

Thanks

The only two issues are:

1. Rotational mass

2. Adapters are at least 15mm thick so you need to take that into account when considering wheel choice

Do you honestly think there aren't enough? 5x112 gives you massive choice from VAG to Merc, BBS and several other aftermarket manufacturers, and you've even got access to jap spec wheels (5x114) and some GM/Vauxhall wheels (5x110) with wobble bolts

yeah there is a wide choice of wheels but it comes down to money really. ive got wheels in mind and they seem to be alot more expensive on 5x112 compared to 5x100.

how do wobble bolts work and what pcd can work with wobble bolts ? are these safe aswell ?

thanks

You'll probably find that 5x100 wheels won't have an offset that's adapter friendly for our cars.

Wobble bolts are perfectly safe to run provided you've got the right size spigots. Without them the wobble bolts will work themselves loose.

There's a very good video explaining how they work on YouTube but I'm on my iPhone atm. It's by an American with a Mk5 Jetta in it at the beginning if you wanna look for it. Wobble bolts limit you to about 2mm difference either side (i.e. 5x110 - 5x114). They won't work for 5x100

Only other option is to have the holes welded and the wheels redrilled but this will devalue them so your saving won't be that much. Bear in mind that perrenial favourites don't really lose value 2nd hand so you might be better off saving longer and getting the right fitment

I have adaptors that have changed my PCD to 5x120 + changed my centre bore to 72mm (Land Rover wheels) and i havent had any problems. Just need to make sure you have done all your calculations to make them fit.
