Miltek TBE on ED 30 question
« on: May 07, 2009, 09:47:38 pm »
Still thinking about this on my Edition 30 ....

Spoke to Miltek today and the guy confused me a bit.  He confirmed a full TBE (which is what I would do) is only suitable or a remapped Ed 30 due to the exhaust gas temperatures which would be too low on a standard car and bring up the emissions / engine management light.  Not a problem I thought as I have a Superchips remap ...

Question - does the remap need actually telling the Miltek is in place.  He lost me a bit saying the lamda sensor reading would confuse even a remapped Ed 30 unless it knew the TBE was installed ?  Have I got him wrong ?

I have an old DSG stage 1 file on my Superchips Ed 30 .... Do I have to go to Stage 2 with it's increased torque and slightly more power ?  I know they will email me the file ... just I'd quite like to still have the option of what I am running at the moment ....

Any ideas - can I leave it at Stage one without getting the light appear on the dash ?

You shouldn't 'have' to go ST2 if you don't want to, but SC will update your map FOC once you tell them you have gone TBE!

Don't even give it a second thought, behind the re-map itself it's the best mod I have done on my ED!  :happy2:

I had the stage 1 SC map (the one your on now) with the TBE Milltek for a few days without issues, I am now on the newer Stg 2 map and while it's got way more torque I find it just as smooth and progressive as before  :happy2:

I have a full Milltek TBE and am currently running the Xmas update for stage 1.

No problems seen so far.
The choice should be yours.

Thanks for the replies ... it's either a full Miltek TBE or a set of Akrapovic cans for my bike   or both

S08,
just another option, but you could always consider the Jetex turbo back system. Even Milltek acknowledge it's a quality piece of kit.

Thanks .... I know Jetex have been around ages and are top quality - but I have heard a resonated TB miltek and to begin with forgot it was on the car !

I want something that is effectively as quiet as standard.  I don't like loud - or even moderately loud - exhausts on 'normal' cars any more.  I've had a TVR Griffith with a straight through exhaust so do love a good sound .... I've had cars with Janspeed, Devil, Ansa and HKS .... I just don't want anything other than a std sound on this car so it's important that I've heard it .... and the Miltek fits the bill

If anyone has a Jetex system in Surrey or SW London I would be pleased to listen though

I guess the sound/noise is a subjective thing.
I had a resonated system on my mk4 turbo and that became very drony at motorway speeds which is why I'm moving away from Milltek for my Edition 30.

I also stressed the noise level issue to Jetex when I spoke to them recently as I cant stand anything louder than standard. They assured me their system was near identical to standard, and  signficantly quiter than the resonated milltek.

Actually having the Milltek TBE exhaust on my car for just over a week I can say it is the nuts. :jumping:

I went from stock(reasonaby quiet) to non-res cat back (very loud, boomy), to res cat back (very quiet, quieter than stock) to the full TBE which overall is a little deeper than stock with a nice rasp at the top end.

^^^ What the man said  :happy2:

I started with the Non-res and for all the motorway miles I do it was too boomy

The Res version with the downpipe and sport cat is perfect for me now  :driver:
