Door dropping and warping
« on: February 27, 2012, 07:06:37 pm »
Hi, has anybody else had any problems with doors dropping ?
Mine are out of line now, not so much with the lock receiver but when you can tell by the lines

Also both doors, well mainly the passenger door seems to have warped at the top, so when its closed theres a gap on the top corner, just a bit concerned

My old MK5 had this problem, i took it to Lookers Teesside as it was still in Warranty and they destroyed the car. They caused more problems trying to fix it than what it was worth!!
In the end i got told by the Dealer Principal that i was not welcome back!

So just a word of warning of anyone in the North East who may use Lookers Teesside to adjust their doors, DONT!

Think the problem is worse on 3 door cars due to size & weight of the doors?.

ive actually just gone to my car and literally pulled the window down, my knee in the middle of the door and pulled the top back, done it a couple of times while checking when its closed and it back to how it used to be

Crapping myself i was  :scared: but it was getting bad, water pouring in while washing the car  :surprised:

Now ive read about door drop, putting a piece of wood underneath the door and getting a jack and slowly start jacking it up, all the time closing the door to check.

Starting to dent the hinged exterior side of the door

I have this issue on both of my doors, the rubber doesn't quite meet at the top and I can hear the wind over about 60mph.  I thought it would be more about adjusting the vertical angle.

Yeah it is mate but i had both issues. Ive fixed the rubber issue at the top by winding window down and my knee in the middle and slowly pulling the top back. Do it slowly and check to make sure you dont over do it
Going to have a go at the door drop on the weekend

I read on here somewhere about the door warp thats what a dealer did and the door drop i took my old mk4 gti to the dealers and thats what they did but with a trolley jack and piece of timber.

By all means go to VW but not sure how much they'll charge
