Differences between ED35 and ED30 engine

I've just received this month's EVO and they've added an ED35 to their fleet.

They say that the ED35 engine is from the Mk5.  Is this correct? 

What are the differences between the engine in the ED35 and the ED30?

Ed35 ditches the EA888 engine from the MK6 GTi in favour of the older but tougher EA113 unit from the Mk5 GTi, which is also used in higher states of tune in the Golf R and Scirocco R.

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.

yes this is correct... but they didnt just use it because its 'tougher' .... more likely as its cheaper :innocent:

They haven't done the development of the TSI with a K04 or equivalent.

Absolutely, why develop the EA888 when the EA113 does the job superbly already? It would be a waste of money. What I'd like to know is if the EA888 will eventually be developed with K04 or equivalent for the MK7, which is going to need every one of it's 260odd horses to compete with the new VXR & ST.

Standard Mk5 GTi usues EA113 as well, just with K03 not K04. Same engine though.

this is reason my name wouldnt go down for the current R. The K04 with the EA888 is the one to have  :smiley:

The mk7 will be losing around 200kg thanks to the new MQB platform... which will help with emissions also. Expect power to be up, but no where near what the RS & VXR have simply because it wont need it  :wink:

The mk7 will be a new engine they are going to be adding the variable valve lift that the audi longditudinal engines already use so lots of extra torque across the rev range the figures I saw were not far short of the new 220 ps diesel engine!

that would be interesting - don't the longitudinal EA888 2.0T engines make 300-odd bhp with a Stage 1 remap?

Car magazine reckons the next GTI will have 217 bhp. There's an article on their website where you can read about it.

God I hope so. It will still be quicker than the standard Mk6 with 217, as it will be considerably lighter, but in order to be as quick as the new ST and VXR, I reckon it'll need 235-240 bhp at least. R could then be around the 300-320 mk, and Ed40 around 270. And I really hope the rumours of a 4wd version of the GTi are true.

From what Ive heard , the Mk7 GTI will have the same engine as the Mk6 GTI , ie EA888 based. Nothing new or earth shattering , no cylinder deatctivation , no stop start , no extravagant 250ps plus power outputs.
