VC i feel sorry for you, that view only looks like that 4 days a year, the rest of the time its pissing it down with rain :signLOL:, not far from me, im in Tavistock but work in lifton near Launceston, are you going to the VW show in a couple of weeks? fuel permitting

fuel permitting yeah i'll be heading over there, the shows only being held there due to a john o groats lands end mission from some dubbers, but a fuel strike might cause a cancellation  :fighting2:

bora hopefully will be in her new outfit and parked in the show n shine daily drivers area  :happy2:

...oh and it never rains in cornwall... its just differing levels of mist

i've got a mate in tavistock, runs dubmonkeys aircooled garage

Dubmonkeys is near me, i did hear it had changed hands/closed recently, may be wrong tho

show and shine, will have to give that a miss, will have the OH and kids so my car will look a mess by the time i get to the middle of Tavy :signLOL: will come and find you for a chat tho  :happy2:

tbh ive not spoken to him in ages, i know there were a few political issues surrounding the business - but yeah action, come hunt me down  :happy2:

mrs + kids is no excuse, mine will be there too

I watched this on Sky earlier and they were quoting a Tanker Driver as saying the Army won't be able to manage it and that the job was much more difficult that it looks.  Hmm, ok.

Not sure what planet he was on but these boys drive fcuking big trucks around Afghan etc so I don't think the M6 with a tanker full of V Power will be a cause for concern.

We got the same story when the Fire Strike was on, we managed it.  The biggest balls up there was not going into the stations and taking the proper appliances instead of using the retired stuff.

Tearing around Afghanistan in a truck is nothing like driving a fully loaded tanker on a motorway or anywhere else for that matter, will handle totally differently, whatever they carry around Afghanistan in a truck is not gonna move around like 000's of litres of petrol. Everything has to be done so much earlier driving a tanker, when you brake the liquid will be sloshing about and pushing you forward making braking very hard.

It really isn't as easy as you think

So the fuel strike is about the drivers pay and conditions rather than the fuel prices?

Yup

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17502973

Think you need to check out the facts on why they are striking, it's not to do with pay at all, it's to do with how their conditions are being changed for the worse, I doubt anybody would be happy with their working conditions being changed at the drop of a hat and told to get on with it. These drivers have paid a fortune to qualify to drive these fuel tankers so have a right to protect their income. To use the army to do their jobs is nothing short of scandalous, the government brought the idea of using the army to drive tankers I case of fuel blockades like back in the early 2000's, not to break a legal strike. Does anyone honestly think the army would want to be put in that position, I certainly don't think they do.

I need my car to get to work, I can't use public transport as i start very early AM. I also work as a hgv driver, so need roughly £400 of diesel a day, if there is no fuel I won't be able to work, no work = no pay, but these guys are protecting their jobs and income, so they will have my respect for that

You need to check your facts too!!

The Army have 20,000litre fuel trucks that they use on the big convoys to resupply the bases i since found out today. They have smaller one's that i mentioned earlier (7000ltrs) for shorter more localised journeys. So i think they will find driving a truck on a motorway a damn sight easier than driving 22k litre trucks around rutted tracks and desert, whilst getting out all the time to check for roadside bombs!!

Edit:

This is what they drive around Afghanistan

15 - 20k liter shkosh.  Same principles pal and driving on routes littred with legacy mines and improvised explosives make it a little tricky! Then do it across the desert at night on undulating terrain in the dust following a poxy convoy light of the chap in front.  :stupid:

Now come on Mike,

Even though we have both pointed that out it is no where near as dangerous or difficult as driving a tanker around the UK on smooth (by comparison) tarmac roads, following your Tom Tom or road signs, Whilst listening to radio 2, stopping at a service station every 4 hours, phoning the misses on your breaks and getting paid triple or higher what the drivers in Afghan get paid

While their main concerns are pay and conditions, which are matters for their employers, they have also raised health and safety. We take health and safety very seriously and will be looking carefully at what Unite is saying.

According to union officials, fracturing the industry into a patchwork of smaller suppliers is leading to a lowering of standards and pay. Because fuel and truck costs cannot be lowered easily, Unite claims that haulage firms are targeting staff and training costs instead. As a consequence, hauliers are seeking a minimum wage rate and an agreed set of pan-industry standards.

Do i need to carry on? If they aren't about pay then i don't know what is

Where does it say in that article it's about pay?? It mentions what they are paid, which has very little to do with the issue, their salary is only being used to turn public support against them.

No, not particularly, you carry on and believe what some government mouth piece has to say on the issue, the government will say anything to turn the the general public against this strike even more than they already are. The hoyer spokesman and the union guy did not mention it was about a pay rise for their current terms and conditions, they want more work out of them for the same pay, is that something any of you would happily do in your current jobs????

And as for your sarky and sarcastic response, I said where did it say it was about pay in that article, ARTICLE, I said article as I only seen one link which was the telegraph one
