« on: March 27, 2012, 07:57:13 pm »
Hi, i have a quick search on this but would like to hear peoples opinions, I have a golf mk5 2.0tdi 4 motion 140bhp on a stage1 remap and have been thinking about selling it and buying a mk5 golf gti, do you think i will notice much difference in handling and will the gti be much quicker?

if you can live with 1/2 the mpg then go for it

with fuel prices the way they are i wish i'd gotten the diesel tho. probably hardly anything in it between a 2.0T and a 2.0TDI 170 in the real world in terms of performance

I do around 10000miles a year, i know the sensible decision is keep the tdi as its cheaper on fuel, tax, insurance but i do like the look and sound of a gti over the tdi, what do most of you see mpg wise on average? 30mpg?
thanks

It really does depend how you drive it. Mine ranges between 18mpg and 30mpg depending on how good iam. I say get a gti but then I would

I went from a mapped Mk1 Fabia Vrs that used  to do 50mpg what ever it was doing to my Ed30. Major shock at first but now i'm used to it it doesnt seem so bad. I now get excited when i see anything higher than 30mpg

Depends what you hold most valuable. If you can quote the MPG figures from your last 5 outings i wouldn't do it (unless you're a fan of low numbers) but if you enjoy driving with a smile on your face then go for it!

I'd say that if i drive very sensibly then i can get about 37mpg with motorway miles. If you're driving urban then 28mpg is more likely the figure you will see. If you're in London and wanna do an errand that's about a 10 mile round trip expect around 21mpg...

but sensible aint really the reason you get one (despite being an excellent all rounder), i find the temptation too great to hit the loud pedal and shout:

Like the video  :signLOL: , im not a sunday driver, this is why im looking into a gti and it would have to remap within a month of having it  at the moment i get 40mpg with a heavy foot so have to calculate if i can afford the extra fuel aswell as the extra tax and £225 extra insurance
