VW Autochanger compatibility
« on: May 09, 2009, 09:08:53 am »
Does anyone know if the VW cd changer will connect to an Alpine head unit via some sort of adapter?

Also is it easy to get the standard head unit and facia out to put a new single DIN fascia in? The original head unit is just the basic CD player/radio. Non of the fandangled SatNav jiggerypokery

Cheers.

I have never heard of anything to allow you to use the factory CD changer with an aftermarket headunit.

THere are plenty of adapters that do the reverse of this though  :chicken:

Think I may have heard of one for alpine made factory units in some Land Rovers but not for a VW. Keep an eye out for you though

Connects2 probably do an adaptor, have a look on ebay for Alpine VW and something should come up.

Can't find anything that seems to do this which is a shame.

The changer is in the arm rest and looks like its well fitted. Can it be removed with out leaving a big empty hole under the arm rest?

I believe you can buy the inserts from VW, mine doesn't have the CD changer but does have the storage bin inside along with the Aux connector . I'd like to have a CD changer one and would like to know if it drops straight in or if I have to swap arm rests...
Cheers,

Wayne

You need to swap the outer arm rest cover (about £25 from VW) plus a different shape heating duct pipe, not sure on the price of this.  :happy2:
