Ipad newbee searching, help please!
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:21:02 am »
Hi all

My wife has hinted that she would like an ipad for her big birthday next weekend (she wouldn't want be to mention how big, but over 30, and not 50!). I think she would like the potential to roam with it at some point, so 3G or 4G. Just a few questions:

It looks like £500 for ipad3 16GB 4G in PC World and Apple, anywhere cheaper?

The ipad2 does not appear to be much cheaper, any deals out there?

What is the best case and charging station?

Thanks all, don't have much time to get this decided!

It's generally very hard to find Apple kit at reduced prices, and you certainly won't at the moment when the product is so new and demand is so high.

Your best option is to contact Carl and ask him how to achieve student discount, unless you have children in which case you can do it legitimately.

Ah, thanks Andrew. Would Primary school children qualify?

Any thoughts on covers/screen protectors?

.
No, Primary School children will not qualify!

I use Apple's magnetic fold-up-able like a Toblerone bar thingy and then keep the whole lot in a neoprene zipper case.

I use a Microfiber (Monster) car detailing cloth to wipe the screen as it has texture which easily lifts finger marks etc - Easy peasy.

Signature gone, I hope! Thanks!

Yep, Tapatalk sig now gone  :drinking:

There's loads of covers etc to choose from out there in cyberspace. I wouldn't recommend any clear film screen protectors - A Microfiber cloth is perfect.

There wasn't too much off an iPad with student discount. I bought one from John Lewis instead as you get a two year guarantee as standard
Bye Bye Edition 30.

If you go for the iPad 3 try to get at least 32GB as the size of the apps due to it being HD will soon take over the 16GB

Maybe consider the Orange deal for 25 a months for the 32gb iPad 3 for roaming...

I think you're going to need at least 32Gb. Like other posters say - it'll soon get eaten up. My advice get 64Gb non 4g and just tether when you need to.

Thanks all. Right, I like to think I am up to speed with these things, but tethering?? How does this work, connect by bluetooth and then use the phone for the 3G connection? Any problems with tethering a Samsung Galaxy 2?

Thanks again!

Your biggest saving will be to buy it from the States (if u know somebody that's travelling there) that's what I did and saved about £100
