Xenon's too bright
« on: March 30, 2012, 08:52:12 pm »
Hey Folks

Bit of a random one :chicken:

When I drive my car at night with the lights on I often get flashed by cars travelling in the opposite direction as if to say get my main beam off. I thought nothing of it to start but it is now getting rather annoying and pee me off quite a bit. I've had the lights checked for beam level, aim etc and it's all within relevant specs. Only thing it can be is the brightness of the Xenon's which are completely standard. Anyone else get this problem??

Cheers

No im not interested in swapping for standard headlights

I find Xenons far too bloody bright.  :sad1:  Virtually every motorway trip now, day or night there's someone with Xenons on behind me and they are so annoying I alter my speed to let em past. They are my pet hate on driving now. Yesterday it was a BMW and and a Jag, return trip, a bloody van, must be aftermarket HIDs.

Hate them !

I get this a lot and I have standard halogen headlights.  They soon calm down when I do show them what the full beams look like.

However I have to admit that overly bright headlights, of any technology, are very irritating.

I have my alignment checked and they're fine.

Golfs and the bug eyed polo's seem to be especially bad.

I had that issue when I first got the car. Then I got them correctly aligned and have not been flashed since. The xenon's are not too bright. They actually give better light output with less glare than standard halogen beams. I would have your settings checked at another place to confirm they are correctly set.

The only other thing I would suggest is to double check the operation of the headlight levellers and ensure the axle mounted levellers are sitting in the correct orientation.

Isn't there a setting in the mfd for driving abroad so they point to the right rather than the left? I'm sure it's just a tick box.

Edit: sorry mate, i think thats just the mk6. :stupid:

I also get flashed at times. I had a MOT failure a few years ago due to "misaligned headlights" and they cranked them down to pass the MOT. I then went back to the dealer and they charged me £30 to realign them back to the same level as pre-MOT. Since then I go to the dealer for MOTs (only £39).

I kept getting flashed when I first bought my car with factory fitted xenons and it took three trips to the dealers to get them aligned so that I didn't get flashed.  Each time I was told that they were slightly out and had been adjusted but I still kept getting flashed.  After the third visit they finally managed to get it right and I don't have any problems anymore, but do sometimes get flashed if I'm going round a bend and the oncoming car catches it at the wrong angle.

When I had that New 2012 Beetle for the weekend with factory fit Xenons , I wnt out at night to see how good they were compared to the standard lights on my Golf and got flashed at twice in about 45 mins- couldnt be arsed with that all the time it would start to get on my tits.
