cambelt but not water pump???

An edition 30 I saw last year has come up for sale again at a better price than I offered the seller at the time. (I know it's called depreciation).

In between that time, the car has had a VW service and cambelt replaced......but not the water pump.

On previous Audis I have owned when the time to change the belt came around, I have always just replaced the waterpump for the extra £60-80, on the basis of while they are there and it's all guraranteed (?)

As it's too late now, Is this a potential problem on the Ed30?

Deal breaker???

Agreed...but it is tricky, as to be fair...the car has been maintained to the VW service schedule...as in cambelt at 40k miles......

I would have done and I would like the water pump to be changed, but it's a second hand car and I can hardly complain that the water pump might be a little worn?

All in it's probably £400, approx to change the belt and pump at VW...I am more concerned of unfortunate instances of failure.

Are they plastic or metal impeller blades on a Ed30??

VW suggested replacing the water pump when mine was in for the cambelt. It should be part of the service imo.

What is the service interval for the water pump?

I suspect if the water pump is going to fail after a cambelt change it'll probably do so within 5k miles.
Without traction power is nothing!

I just changed both at the same time, made sense as a genuine water pump cost Me £35.
2007 Edition 30, build number 30 - APR Stealth TBE - APR HPFP- APR stage 2 remap - Custom CAI - KW Clubsports - 10mm spacers on rear - VW Motorsport LSD, clutch & quick shift - A few poly bushes here and there!

A similar thing happened to me only i bought from used approved and one of the terms of the condition of sale was for a cambelt change and water pump replacement because if you are doing one, you do the other as they both kaput at roughly the same intervals.

However VW in their cheap-rsed wisdom only did the cambelt but claimed they'd done everything i'd requested and the sale went through. Anyway to cut a long story short i found out and insisted they took it back and replace the water pump to which they very apologetically obliged.

Bottom line, it's very common practise to replace the water pump at the same time you replace the cambelt so you definitely have a strong position to haggle from.
