Sorry but I prefer your Mk5.

The Mk6 is really just a tarted up Mk5.5.
Jees is it not time you let it go.  :P

On the 1M review on top gear when the section starts with the Gti (They have them lined up Mk1 - MK6) they didnt have a Mk5.  If any Gti they shouldve missed out the Mk4, surely?  Kind of related  :happy2:
a few photos have done this. It's because if you line the mk5 up with the others it shows how it looks like an Audi not a style evolution of the GTI. I posted a photo on iirc a mk1 forum a while back with them all lined up. It was comented on as such.

....I'm only giving my opinion in response to posts, Geoff. I'm not on an anti Mk6 mission, but my opinion of the Mk6 hasn't changed.

lol at the angle of the shot you know what part
Have a look at http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26536.15.html even some biased mk5 owners seem to agree the mk5 is the odd one out.
IIRC Robin you were a designer amazed you cannot see that the mk5 all curves and roundedness of every part meens it does not fit the style evolution.

....Yeah, you're right that it's all about angles of a camera shot. Yours emphasises the wide radiator grill strip and the Mk5's is more like the Audi's. But you should look at the overall rather than just focus on one angle and I think that the Mk5 is definitely a valid evolution. As a Mk5.5  the Mk6 is also an evolution of course. Perhaps the Mk6 is a closer evolution but I still much prefer the Mk5  :P

I disagree, But don't get me wrong i loved my mk5 as well you know. The mk5 just did not look like an evolution of the GTI to me. The mk6 has more of a family look when parked next to the original imo. (I get to see this every day most people don't) The mk5 was too rounded too many curved styling touches too look as clean lined as a GTI, to me it did not look right parked next to the mk1.
I find it funny when people call it the mk5.5 i don't go round calling mk2 owners mk1.5 as alot was carried over there too. Theres also alot more different when you start digging but if it makes you feel better about yourself and your car. :P

I agree when you compare the Mk5 with the Mk1 or 2 but the evolution is Mk1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5 > 6 and the Mk5 evolves well from the Mk4 even if the Mk6 does so even closer.

It's all rather academic anyway. I've driven the Mk6 and was very disappointed as I expected it to be a significant leap ahead. My dislike of its styling, especially its interior, is purely subjective. As I wrote in my review of the Mk6 it's very much not for me but that doesn't make it rubbish. I quite like the Golf R though.

That to me does not make much sence.
